Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the QVocab Chrome extension processes information when you translate and save vocabulary from web pages.
In short: your saved vocabulary stays in your browser. QVocab sends only the text you explicitly select for translation to Google Translate. QVocab does not sell personal data or use it for advertising.
Information QVocab processes
- Selected website text. QVocab processes only text that you explicitly select and ask the extension to translate.
- Saved vocabulary. Words, translations, selected translation options, and word sets are stored locally in your browser.
- No account data. The current version does not require an account and does not collect your name, email address, password, payment details, or browsing history.
How information is used
Information is used only to provide QVocab’s user-facing features: translating selected text, playing pronunciation audio, saving vocabulary, organizing word sets, and exporting saved vocabulary.
Local storage and retention
QVocab uses Chrome’s local extension storage to keep your saved words, translations, and word sets on your device. The data remains there until you delete it in QVocab, clear the extension’s data, or uninstall the extension. QVocab does not operate a server-side database for this data in the current version.
Google Translate
When you request a translation or pronunciation, the selected text is sent over HTTPS to Google Translate endpoints solely to return the requested translation or audio. Google may process that request under the Google Privacy Policy. QVocab does not send your saved word list or word sets to Google.
Data sharing and advertising
QVocab does not sell user data, share it with data brokers, use it to determine creditworthiness, or use it for personalized advertising. Data is transferred only when necessary to provide the translation and pronunciation features described above, or when required by law.
Permissions
- Storage: saves your vocabulary and word sets locally.
- Website access: detects text you explicitly select and displays the QVocab translation control.
- Google Translate access: requests translations and pronunciation audio for the selected text.
Your choices
You can delete individual words, selected word sets, or all locally saved QVocab data through the extension interface. You can also stop all processing by disabling or uninstalling QVocab.
Security
QVocab limits data processing to what is necessary for its stated purpose and uses HTTPS for network requests. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but QVocab is designed to minimize the amount of data processed.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when QVocab’s functionality or data practices change. The updated date at the top of this page will identify the latest version.
